Why Clear Communication Matters in Knitwear Development
How precise briefs, sample feedback and early quantity signals prevent delays and misproduction in sweater programs.

Most problems in knitwear development are not technical - they are communication problems. A color described in words, a size chart sent late, or a trim change mentioned only in passing can cost weeks and produce the wrong goods. Here is where clear communication matters most.
1. The Product Brief
The brief is the foundation. For each style, share the target market, season, fiber preference, silhouette, sizes and any color or trim direction. A photo or sketch of the intended look is more useful than a long text description alone.
When the brief is complete, the supplier can confirm whether a style is developed from your design (OEM) or proposed by us (ODM), and what sample time to expect - typically 5-7 days for our programs.
2. Colors and Materials
Colors are the most common source of mismatch. Name the color standard you work to (for example a Pantone reference or your own lab dip), and confirm whether you need the supplier's stock yarn or a custom dye.
Material details also belong in writing: composition, yarn count, weight per garment and care instructions. When both sides use the same spec sheet, the sample and the bulk order match.
3. Quantities and Timing Early
Share quantity expectations as early as possible. Because we work from 50 pieces per color per style, we can plan small test runs - but knowing whether a style is a 50-piece trial or a 3,000-piece program changes how we schedule production.
4. Sample Feedback
The sample stage is where issues are cheapest to fix. Reply with specific feedback: fit, hand-feel, color accuracy, trim placement. Vague comments like "not quite right" slow the process; precise notes get the next sample closer.
5. One Point of Contact
Finally, keep a single decision-maker or a clearly named team on your side. When every question has one authoritative answer, development moves faster and fewer details get lost between departments.
Planning a knitwear program? Send us a brief with your target styles and we will confirm what is needed to start.
